Congratulations on your successful doctorate, Kay Hönemann!

Congratulations on your successful doctorate, Kay Hönemann!

On December 9, Kay Hönemann successfully defended his dissertation “Designing Authoring Tools for the Metaverse to Detect User Behavior” at TU Dortmund University.

In his work, Kay highlights the challenges of creating augmented reality content by citizen developers and provides valuable design knowledge for future AR authoring tools. His research addresses in particular issues of self-efficacy and complexity reduction in the creation of AR content.

Our special thanks go to the dissertation committee Jens Pöppelbuß and Simon Hensellek for their time and valuable feedback.

After the defense, Kay received the traditional doctoral hat, which was designed by colleagues from the Chair of Digital Transformation and presented by his supervisor Manuel Wiesche. The hat reflects shared experiences and special moments from his time at the chair.

We are proud of Kay and look forward to seeing where his path will take him next.

The photo captures a celebration in a brightly lit office or seminar room, featuring a group of five people, likely marking an academic milestone like a PhD defense. On the left side, the main focus is on a smiling man dressed in a black suit and black shirt. He is standing still while another man places a custom-made graduation cap (mortarboard) on his head. The man placing the hat wears a grey plaid blazer, blue jeans, and glasses. The hat itself is heavily decorated; the cylindrical part is covered in small printed photos, and the top features miniature objects, including a small palm tree and a frame. To the right of this pair, three onlookers observe the scene. Closest to the center is a man wearing a red plaid shirt, jeans, and glasses, who is also wearing a white face mask and has his hands clasped. Next to him stands a woman with curly hair and glasses, wearing a yellow and green patterned sweater; she holds a glass of sparkling wine and a brown bag. On the far right stands a tall man in a black t-shirt and grey trousers, also holding a glass of sparkling wine and smiling. In the immediate foreground, resting on a white table, is a white balloon with the text "Congrats Class of 2025" printed in a festive font. The background features a whiteboard, a wall-mounted air conditioning unit, and a display area featuring a large model of a construction crane or excavator (likely a Lego Technic model). The room has a standard drop ceiling with fluorescent lighting. © Katharina Wahl/TU Dortmund
