Congratulations on your successful doctorate, Amelie Schmid!

Congratulations on your successful doctorate, Amelie Schmid!

On July 9, 2026, Amelie Schmid successfully defended her dissertation, “Rethinking Work in the Digital Age: Implications of Data-Driven Technologies for Work and Workers within Incumbent Firms,” at TU Dortmund University.

In her thesis, Amelie examines the challenges of digital transformation for employees and the management of traditional organizations. Her research provides particularly valuable insights into the effects of implementing algorithmic management, as well as the development of trust in AI.

We would like to extend our special thanks to the dissertation committee—Prof. Dr. Richard Lackes and Prof. Dr. Mario Nadj—for their time and valuable feedback.

After her defense, Amelie received the traditional doctoral cap, which was designed by doctoral students from the Chair of Digital Transformation and presented to her by her advisor, Manuel Wiesche. The cap reflects shared experiences and special moments from her time at the chair.

We are proud of Amelie and look forward to seeing where her path will lead her next.

The image shows a woman and a man standing next to each other in a brightly lit room, smiling directly at the camera. The woman on the left has long blonde hair and is wearing a light pink pantsuit with a black top underneath, a gold necklace, and black pointed shoes. On her head, she wears a striking, custom-decorated doctoral hat. The cylindrical base of the hat is covered with several printed photos, while the square top features a small rubber duck wearing its own miniature graduation cap and a green tassel. Standing to her right is a man with short brown hair, a beard, and round glasses. He is dressed in a white button-down shirt, a gray and black patterned blazer, light beige trousers, a dark belt, and brown leather brogue shoes; he wears a watch on his left wrist. In the background, large windows offer a sweeping view of a lush green, forested landscape under a cloudy sky. To the left side of the room, there is a high table set up with platters of snacks and finger food, with a red plastic crate sitting on the floor underneath it. On the right side, a mobile whiteboard on wheels and parts of other office equipment are visible. The light-colored floor is marked in a few places with strips of yellow tape. © Amelie Schmid
